The region as a business location

Geographically seen the district of the Industrial Chamber of Commerce Bonn/Rhein-Sieg, covers the UN- and Beethoven city Bonn, as well as 19 other cities and communities of the surrounding Rhein-Sieg Kreis. 900.000 people are living on a surface area of 1294,6 square kilometres in this economic area of Bonn/Rhein-Sieg.

Since the relocation of Federal Government from Bonn to Berlin in 1999 the region completely realigned and developed from the former seat of Government to a prosperous modern region, focusing on services in the third sector. Not only due to an excellent infrastructure, the region today is one of the most attractive regions of growth in Germany in: economics, sciences, culture with focus on international congress. By establishing new institutions, attracting new industries and start-ups, 25.000 new jobs were additionally provided, leading to a population growth of 110.000 people. (app. 12%)

In 2020 the number of inhabitants is expected to increase to more than 1 Million.

The IHK membership numbers since then have increased by nearly 50%.
